Recommended Reading
The following is a list of books which we consider to be compulsory reading for any serious student. It is from these books that most of the available references to the use of music as a learning tool are to be found. Those seeking extra information for use in school projects should start here. Most are available from any decent library or from your local bookstore.
Brief notes are included on some of the books to help your search.
- 1. SUPER LEARNING, by Sheila Ostrander and Lynn Shroeder,Warner
Books, 1994. ISBN 0 7515 0887 X. This is a reprint of one the earliest and best texts on learning improvements. You can find a wealth of data relating to many useful methods of both learning and educating. Has lots of research - from psychic experiments to effect of music on plants.
- 2. ACCELERATED LEARNING, by Colin Rose, Dell Publishing,
New York, 1985. ISBN 0 441 50044 3. Another excellent guide which apparently has been updated recently. Easier to read than "Superlearning" above, which it often refers to. It should be part of every student and teachers library. Includes many useful sections such as simple speed reading techniques and creativity enhancement.
- 3. THE EINSTEIN FACTOR, by Win Wenger and Richard Poe, Prima Publishing, USA, 1996. ISBN 0 7615 0186 X. This is the learning book of the decade. It's cover states: "A proven new method for increasing your intelligence." It is awesome. Until you have this book, you are out-of-date. The major technique is called "Image Streaming," which simple, elegant should be taught in preschool. Win Wenger is also a prolific inventor and has an interesting web site.
- 4. SUPER READING SECRETS, by Howard Stephen Berg, Warner Press, USA, 1992. ISBN 0 446 36299 9. The author is probably the fastest reader in the world, and tells you how to do it in a slightly hard to follow format. The book contains most of the info from his very successful speed reading training course that is sold in TV infomercials.
- 5. INFLUENCE - THE PSYCHOLOGY OF PERSUASION, by Robert B. Cialdini, Quill Press, New York, 1993. ISBN 0 688 12816 5. Another book which should be compulsory reading for all consumers, educators and business people. Discover how you are manipulated by experts, and how to control it.
- 6. UNLIMITED POWER, by Anthony Robbins, Simon&Shuster
Press, London, 1986. ISBN 0 671 69976 8
- 7. THE RELAXATION RESPONSE, by Herbert Benson, Collins
Press, London, 1976. ISBN 0 00 216712 3
- 8. THE ART OF TEACHING, by Gilbert Highet, Vintage Press, Random House, New York 1978. ISBN 0 679 72314 5 This book has some excellent ideas and approaches. Well worth reading.
